Position Summary

Pharmacy Automation Specialist maintains and operates pharmacy automation systems such as chemotherapy compounding robots, unit-based cabinets, medication carousels, bar code medication technology, and other assigned devices. The role serves as an automation superuser and educator, creating and modifying standard operating procedures, instructional materials, and educational content. Responsibilities include working with customers and vendors to keep automation functioning, minimizing downtime, implementing upgrades and testing new functionality, reviewing and correcting medication error reports related to assigned technology, and providing cross‑coverage for other pharmacy technician functions. The position may have on‑call responsibilities.

Hours & Location

Full time (40 hours/week). Evening Shift. Weekend work required.

Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Central Pharmacy, Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (or equivalent) plus 1 year of relevant experience; or 5 years of experience as a hospital pharmacy technician is preferred.
• Current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
• Current registration with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
• A minimum of one year experience as a hospital pharmacy technician is required and one year of experience with pharmacy automation is desired.

Salary Range

Minimum $24.54/hour – Maximum $40.51/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Salary discussions occur during candidate screening calls.
