Mohs Histotechnician Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare tissue specimens by processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining for examination by the Mohs surgeon
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, including microtomes and cryostats
  • Ensure accurate documentation and labeling of specimens and slides
  • Perform routine and specialized histological and immunohistochemical staining techniques
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and protocols
  • Collaborate closely with the Mohs surgeon and clinical staff to ensure timely processing and examination of specimens
  • Monitor and order laboratory supplies to ensure efficient operation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to tissue processing and staining
  • Ensure quality control and assurance in all histological preparations
Mohs Histotechnician Qualifications & Skills
  • Previous experience working in a Mohs surgery laboratory
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment such as cryostats and microtomes
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety and regulatory standards
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with immunohistochemical staining techniques
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in laboratory tasks
  • Experience in histology techniques including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for preparing and examining histological slides
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced medical laboratory environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of Mohs micrographic surgery procedures
  • Effective communication skills to work with the surgical team
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology or related field
  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Pathology Management, including specimen processing and management, communicating results, completing path log.
  • Inbound and outbound phone calls
  • Schedule Mohs patients for surgery
  • Triage, including call backs, Klara communication, coordination with providers, and documentation of actions taken
  • Clinic preparation, including prepping trays and sterilizing instruments
  • Other duties as assigned by management or provider
