Overview
Principal Mechanical Engineer - IPTL Flight Termination System at Raytheon. The Shipboard Effectors Department is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to be the Independent Flight Termination System (IFTS) Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) with experience leading a multi-disciplinary design and integration team.
The role of the IFTS IPTL is to lead a cross-functional and cross-discipline team of engineers through the design cycle for mechanical, harnessing, and energetics development and RCC 319 qualification, as well as integration into flight rounds. This role will include Control Account Management (CAM) responsibilities so Earned Value (EV) certification is required.
What You Will Do
- Be responsible for the technical integrity of the IFTS enabled Power Control and Telemetry (PC&T) Section, including the Technical Data Package (TDP) development, qualification, and integration of the system into a missile
- Tracking, reporting, and meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product, including Earned Value (EV) management and Estimate at Complete (EAC) inputs
- Manage the technical Risks of the IFTS
- Manage and Communicate staffing needs and requirements to both program and functional leadership
- Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include labs, field work, or a combination
- Assignments may include guiding a team through several phases of hardware systems lifecycle such as designs and analysis; architecting new systems; developing and documenting subsystem requirements and test plans; peer reviews of designs as a subject matter expert; presentations to peers, management, and government customers; and root-cause failure investigations
- Collaboration with both Functional and Program higher level management
- Collaboration with Customer and Suppliers
- Supervising the definitions of mechanical outline and construction details, component selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, electrical/RF layout, and delivering the final technical data package

Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- Prior experience as a technical leader on a complex subsystem
- Experience developing and executing a plan to develop a mechanical component or subsystem
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
- Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
- Prior experience as a technical leader on a complex subsystem during Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) Phase
- Systems engineering thought process with analytical skills background
- Experience with design to RCC 319 standards
- Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of CCAs, mechanical/RF components, metal housings, structures, and electronics assemblies
- Highly self-motivated individual that can perform multidiscipline work
- Strong leadership skills and project management, sub contract management experience
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Very strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with team members and customers
