Summary
As Senior Counsel, you will partner with Human Resources and business leaders to provide responsive and practical advice on labor and employment issues including compensation and benefits, hiring, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, performance management and discipline, terminations, traditional labor, corporate reorganizations, contingent worker issues, and immigration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively review and develop employment policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with complex and rapidly changing international, federal, state, and local laws on diverse employment matters.
- Lead and/or provide assistance for internal investigations.
- Manage all aspects of defending employment-related disputes and litigation including responding to complaints and attorney demand letters, drafting responses to administrative charges, participating in mediation, and supervising outside counsel.
- Partner with Human Resources on matters impacting employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement including responding to grievances and developing strategies for negotiations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various projects to support and maintain compliance with employment laws.
- Draft severance agreements and executive employment agreements.
- Prepare and present training on employment and labor issues to Human Resources and business leaders.
- Responsible for identifying and recommending remedial measures, best practices, and other action items as appropriate to further the company’s employment law compliance.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned or as may be necessary, such as advising on the labor, employment, and benefits issues of mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
Requirements
Education and / or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited institution and active membership in good standing with any state bar (Texas preferred).
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
- Five or more years of experience in a law firm, government, or in-house position as a labor and employment law attorney. In-house corporate legal department experience preferred.
- Knowledge of international, state, and federal laws / regulations related to employment law issues (Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, WARN, etc.).

- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to distill legal issues for executives and management.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, coworkers, and colleagues.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with clients and as part of a cross‑functional team.
- The ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple issues and projects while being highly responsive.
- Excellent judgment in knowing how to proactively issue spot, escape issues, and propose solutions.
- Strong project management experience and problem‑solving skills with the ability to lead a project from initiation to completion.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, primarily domestic.
Working Conditions
- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally.
- Driving, walking, sitting, standing frequently.
