Job Description
Planned Parenthood of Illinois provided pay range: $100,000.00/yr - $107,000.00/yr
The Political Director leads the development and execution of Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ (PPIL) and Planned Parenthood Illinois Action’s (PPIA) political, legislative, and advocacy strategies.
Responsibilities
- Co-Lead and manage the Public Policy and Advocacy team
- Develop and direct strategies to build political power for PPIL, PPIA, and PPIA PAC
- Manage and engage in direct lobbying efforts
- Support legislative advocacy efforts
- Organize and implement electoral and grassroots organizing efforts
- Ensure compliance with state and federal lobbying and election laws
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Maintain and elevate the organization's reputation
- Oversee department finances and budgets
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team
- Serve as a spokesperson on public policy issues
- Support Development team efforts
Other Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and strategic support to the PPIA Board
- Represent PPIL and PPIA in coalition spaces
- Plan and execute annual lobby days in Springfield
- Maintain a deep and current understanding of key policy issues
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other PPIL departments
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Policy, Public Administrations, Political Science, or related field preferred
- Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in policy analysis, development, advocacy, and government affairs
- Strong communication, research, analytical, and strategic planning skills
- Experience working collaboratively with community or government partners
- Excellent analytical, writing, presentation, and oral communication skills
