Job Purpose  
Responsible for the installation, inspection, repair, maintenance and testing all types of fixed extinguishing systems, up to and including underground piping in conformance with specifications, AHJ's, local and national codes. The journeyman is responsible for the overall installation of the fire protection systems by planning, managing, supervising apprentices and including coordination with other trades.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a warehouse, office, or construction job site setting indoors or outdoors where temperature and noise level may vary greatly. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts, exposed to dust, chemicals, airborne particles, or risk of electrical shock.
Physical Demands
The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee is frequently required to use the hands to finger, handle, or feel objects tools or controls or operate a computer. The employee is required to walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl in difficult or tight surroundings. The employee must regularly lift, push, pull and move objects up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 300 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Essential Functions
- Regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location and work schedule. This may include traveling, on-call responsibilities and/or evening or weekend hours.
- Inspect, examine, and test installed systems using hydrostatic testing, air testing, and functional testing while providing required reports of testing procedures or inspections.
- Ensures that inspection, measuring and testing devices (IMT) are properly used, handled, and stored in order to prevent misuse, abuse, damage, or changes detrimental to equipment accuracy and repeatability.
- Cut, hammer, chisel, and bore holes in structures such as bulkheads, decks, walls, prior to pipe installation using the appropriate tools, ladders, lifts and equipment.
- Join and assemble piping by turning piping into fittings, welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading thereby attaching to structure, walls, floors, and equipment using brackets, hangers, clamps using a variety of hanger materials.
- Measure, mark, cut, thread and groove piping per specifications using tools such as power machines, saws, cutting torches, groovers, and benders.
- Fabricate, assemble, install, inspect, repair, and perform maintenance and test of all types of fixed extinguishing systems, up to and including underground piping for private service mains, hydrants, pits and underground control valves.
- Install, inspect and service as a wide variety of other fire protection equipment such as backflow preventers, fire pumps, standpipes, and foam systems.
